SS3 Integration
Wow, this project was a lot of work. I started on this even before the election, as you can probably tell by the subject matter. It seems like something the students could really get interested in though. I did this for a 9th grade world history class because I am currently observing this class. I believe the election is something that all Social Studies classes should in someway discuss the election. It took me a little to figure out the google sites, but in the end I worked it out. It was definitely worth the work and I think I would be able to use this lesson once I get my own classroom and will be able to teach my own lessons. Although, I suppose I will have to wait four years. Here is my site :)

Grades 2
I thought this assignment was a little difficult. The IF and COUNTIF functions were new to me. I had to figure them out, but once I did it was alright. I used 93 as an A, 83 as a B and so forth. I hope I did everything else right. I know it said to have the percentages, but when you put the cursor over the different parts of the pie chart, it will say the percentage, so I am taking that as enough. This is my grades2 exercise :)

Grades 1
This assignment was very informative. I have worked with spreadsheets in a computer class in high school, but that is about as much as I ever have. It can definitely be a useful tool with all of the formulas and formatting that can be done. It was also really useful tool for creating charts. Here is a link to my grades1 page :)

Intel Ranking Tool
I thought this assignment was really interesting. This could definitely be a good tool to use in the classroom. It gives students the opportunity to discuss the reasons they ranked the items the way they did.
Maria was partner and she was really great to work with. We decided to use her subject area because she is actually teaching right now. We chose Macbeth and we did a ranking tool on who was responsible for King Duncan's death. It was really neat to see it all come together. We put our ranking tool on a Google Site and here is the link to it. I hope we did everything right.

Screen Grab Correction
I just noticed I forgot one little #1 in address to my screen grab assignment. Here is the correct link.
Photo shop
This activity was really fun. I liked editing the photos. I think I will probably use photoshop more that I know how easy it is. Here is a link to my album :) Not all of the photos were edited, but you can probably tell the ones that were. Here are three of the photos I edited as well. The one of my twin sister casi and me, we were originally wearing pink shirts.

Online Graph 2

I added the percentage graph as well because I didn't think the numbers graph accurately portrayed things because WV's enrollment was so much lower, even though we had the highest percentage, we had the lowest numbers. The other two states that switched were Utah and Mississippi, while the are .5% off from each otherUtah obviously has the higher enrollment. Another thing intersting about both graphs is that the poorest states don't necessarily have the highest IEP. I think another thing that is interesting is that Kentucky and WV have the highest AEP and we are neighboring states. Maybe geography plays a role. Not just the lay of the land but maybe there is something about where we are located (Applachian Mountains maybe). Just an observations I had.

Online Graph 1

This assignment was pretty simple with using the graph tool from Kid Zone. I think it would be very easy for students to create a graph online for a project. I decided to embed my graph into my blog post.
As for how WV stacked up against the national average in math scores. We were a few point behind every year. I thought one thing that stuck out to me was that in 2003 WV average was 231 and the national average was 234. Two years later in 2005 the WV average had stayed the same while the national average increased by 3 points. This shows that WV was stagnate while the national average went up and this is not a good thing. Every other year that was reported there was an increase. And all in all, WV doesn't seem to be behind that much in the national average, but I believe we need to strive to be above the average.

Image Format
I chose all Halloween pictures because I am really excited about the upcoming holiday. I added a powerpoint so you all could enjoy the images as well :)

Reading Resonse
I found this to be rather time consuming and didn't enjoy it as much as a lot of our other activities. I know this is part of our learning process as well. Here is my narrative about the article :)
Screen Grab
I did a search on the internet through Yahoo for a fall scene. When I saw the pictures that came up that is when I decided to put the quote on it that I did. Obviously it isn't my quote. I hit the print screen button on my laptop keyboard and then pasted it into paint. I had to erase the boarder that would be on the acutal screen like the start button and the tabs at the bottom of the screen. Then I used the text box to add the quote. The picture ended up being 202 KB and was saved as a JPEG file. I think the idea of modifying pictures found online can be very useful for visual learners. Hope you enjoy my picture :)
Graphic from Scratch Part 2
I didn't really understand how to do this at first. Then, I went and looked at the discussion board for class which helped out a bit. I am still not sure I did it correctly. For the different aspects of class I included my blog, Google Docs, Power Point, FTP, and Photostory. I included the Power Point and Photostory because I believe they are two of the most useful things I have learned. I could have added Movie Maker instead of Photostory because I thought they were pretty similar. I couldn't get my Google Docs or FTP site to be able to load separately so I included examples of things I have saved in these formats. I did a circle map because I think they are relatively equal in importance. When I saved the slide as a JPEG it was 47 KB and that is the one that inserted here. I orginally saved it as bitmap and that was 676 KB.
I think the use of flow charts and the charts you can select on Power Point can be very useful with showing relationships. Also, showing students how what they are doing is connected can be useful as well. Here is the link to my Power Point Show that has the slide in which I made my chart. I hope I did this right. :)

self portrait
I drew myself on Paint. I chose brown for my hair and eyes and did a profile view. I added a blonde streak in my hair because I have one blonde streak. It's my little way of being unique. I then transfered it to my FTP site and now it is here for your viewing pleasure :)

Reflection
The reflection paper was pretty time consuming. The most difficult part was determining which standards to add into the table. All in all, I think it went pretty well. I hope everyone else is progressing as much as I am in this class. Here is my reflection in my Google Doc form. :)

jeopardy correction
well I thought I had all my jeopardy kinks out of it, but I noticed that there were still a couple mistakes. I have corrected them and here is what I hope is a flawless version. I hope this won't take my points away.

Jeopardy
I thought this Jeopardy idea is a really good idea. In my field experience I was with a teacher who used jeopardy but he did it on the board and then would read the questions out loud. I think this is a really good idea because you can save the template and just change the questions and category names. I really liked it, even if it was a little bit time consuming. I think the students will really be able to get into a game like this. I did mine on a review for WWI. Here it is.

The photostory was pretty simple to use, especially since I have already used it. I am starting to feel a little overwhelmed with everything that I have going on now. I am determined to stay on task though. Hope everyone is doing well in all of your classes :) Here is my photostory.

You Tube/Movie Maker
This is my first time ever uploading anything to YouTube. I guess I never really thought about how things got on there and that people actually had to put them there. I thought the Movie Maker was excellent. I liked the PhotoStory better still, which I know I have a project to do with that as well this mod. I am learning so much in this class. I must admit that I am looking off other people's blogs to make sure I am doing things right, so I would like to say thank you to my classmates even if you don't know you are helping me, you are helping me a lot :)
I am not sure if this is right. I tried to edit the html a million times and it would show up and then when I hit save it would disappear. I ended up inserting a presentation and it saved finally. It might be a little rough still, but it is on there at least. Here is my page

Google Docs
I hope this is what we were supposed to do. I'm also going to include the link to my Google Doc Power Point. It was really quite easy to make this into a google doc. When I was struggling a little with making it into a webpage through my regular documents I even thought of Google Docs and how it was.
Power Point Web Page
It took me a little longer to figure out how to do this. I kept saving it as a web page but it wouldn't show up in My Documents. I think I got it figured out. I hope it works. I am not sure why it says it's a lesson plan about the New Deal for 11th grade other than I was orginally going to do that, but then changed it but I never saved it that way.

Power Point Show
I am hoping I did this Power Point Show right. I tried to save it as just a power point show at first, and I couldn't get it to work when I clicked on the link. Then, I went back and changed it to the 97-2003 mode and it finally worked.
Power Point Show
Power Point Show
I have used power point before and I think it is a good tool to know how to use. I put more information on this one than I normally do if I am giving a presentation, but I hope that everyone understands it. I saved it orginally not in compatiablilty mode, and then remembered that the newer version doesn't work for some people and went back and changed it. Here is my Power Point :)

PhotoStory
I thought the photostory project was really enjoyable. I was really impressed with how easy it was to just plug in the pictures, narrations, and music that you want. I showed it some friends and family and they were really impressed. They think my technology skills are going way up:) Here is my photostory

FTP
Hopefully this will work and everyone can see my FTP file that I created. I have not had any previous experience with FTP and I didn't even know anything like this exsisted. I did have some trouble with this because my interent is Internet Explorer7 instead of 6. I found a computer that has 6 though and I am still trying to work on figuring it out for 7. Thanks for the helpful comments in the student discussion on blackboard:)

Google Sites
This is my attempt for a google site. http://sites.google.com/site/caliannepate/
I know I need to do some more work on it, but at least it is started.

Personality?
Introverted (I) 51.72% Extroverted (E) 48.28%
Sensing (S) 61.29% Intuitive (N) 38.71%
Thinking (T) 59.38% Feeling (F) 40.63%
Judging (J) 55% Perceiving (P) 45%
Your type is: ISTJ
ISTJ - "Trustee". Decisiveness in practical affairs. Guardian of time- honored institutions. Dependable. 11.6% of total population.
When I started this test I thought I would be ISTP, I was right on all but one. I answered in the middle to a lot of the questions. I feel like I am not on the extreme in a lot of ways. I am organized, but I still procrastinate sometimes. I am shy, but I enjoy being in public and I don't really like to be alone. I mostly make decisions with my head, and sometimes with my heart. I guess this is reflected that most of my percentages are rather close. I don't know how much weight I put into reality tests, but I don't think it is very much.

Resume
I hope everyone is having an excellent day off this Labor Day. I am using today to try to "forge ahead" in my classes. My resume seems to be quite short and I am open for suggestions. I obviously have more work experience than what is listed; however, I don't think when I am going for a teaching position they will care that I was a server at a bar.

Cover Letter
Well I finished my cover letter. I wrote it as if I was applying for a job after I have already gradutated. I started my resume today too, but I ran out of time, so it will have to wait for another post. Any suggestions are welcome. This is my first cover letter, so I am definitely open for constructive criticism. I found using Google Docs rather similar to using Word. It is a really good resource.
Wednesday, August 27, 2008
I guess I probably should have introduced myself better in my first post. My name is Cali Pate and I am in my second semester in the MAT Social Studies program. I am 23 years-old and from Williamstown, WV. I am a substitute teacher in the state of Ohio and I am beginning to work at a restaraunt too. I am also taking one undergraduate class at Marietta College to have transferred to FSU to fufill part of the undergraduate courses I need for the program. So I am a pretty busy person right now. I am really looking forward to graduating (December 2009 hopefully). I really enjoy subbing, but I can't wait to have my own classroom. After graduation I have considered moving to south if I can't find a teaching job up here. This is one of the jobs I found that I would be elligible for after being certified in South Carolina. And I just learned how to change a word into a link. :) I will start my cover letter and resume tonight and probably have a post with them tomorrow.

First Blog
This is my first blog, and I do mean first. I have never blogged before in any way. I am what some people might call "technologically challenged." However, I am looking forward to learning a lot during this course.
